Kobold Monster Cards

If you haven't tried the D&D Adventure System board games (Castle Ravenloft and Wrath of Ashardalon), you had better get on it!  These games provide endless replayability and, if you're willing to do a little work, customization.  If you're looking for a review, there are plenty good ones out there.  The rules of the Adventure System are based off D&D 4th edition; as such, Half-Orc will dig right into it.  Here you'll find homebrew cards and rules to make the Adventure System able to be played as an actual D&D campaign.

Both Castle Ravenloft and Wrath of Ashardalon feature a few kobolds, but if you love the little dragon worshippers as much as I do, it's not enough.  Here are some more Monster Cards to add kobold goodness to your dungeon crawling.

Guard Drake (Reptile, Sentry) - 2 Experience
AC 13 - HP 2
TACTICS
  • If the drake is adjacent to a Hero, it attacks the Hero with a bite.
  • If the drake is on a tile with no Heroes and an unexplored edge, draw a dungeon tile from the bottom of the stack and place it next to the drake's tile.  Place a new Monster on that tile.
  • Otherwise, the drake moves 1 tile toward the closest Hero.
Bite: Attack +4 - Damage 2

Kobold Quickblade (Reptile) - 2 Experience
AC 15 - HP 2
TACTICS
  • If the kobold is adjacent to a Hero, it attacks the Hero with a blade and then moves 1 tile to a tile with no Heroes.
  • If the kobold is within 1 tile of a Hero, it moves adjacent to the closest Hero and attacks with a surprising strike.
  • Otherwise, the kobold moves 1 tile toward the closest Hero.
Blade: Attack +7 - Damage 1
Strike: Attack +7 - Damage 2

Kobold Slinger (Reptile) - 1 Experience
AC 13 - HP 1
TACTICS
  • If the kobold is adjacent to a Hero, it attacks with a dagger.
  • If the kobold is within 2 tiles of a Hero, it attacks the closest Hero with a sling.
  • Otherwise, the kobold moves 1 tile toward the closest Hero.
Dagger: Attack +8 - Damage 1
Sling: When the kobold attacks with a sling, roll the die and consult the table below for the attack that is used against the Hero.
1-10 (Gluepot): Attack +8 - Damage 1 and Immobilized
11-20 (Firepot): Attack +8 - Damage 2

Kobold Tunneler (Reptile) - 3 Experience
AC 15 - HP 1
When placing a new kobold tunneler, place two additional kobold tunnelers next to the first.  You do not gain experience for this card until all kobold tunnelers are destroyed.
TACTICS
  • If the kobold is within 2 tiles of a Hero, it moves adjacent to the closest Hero and attacks with a spear.
  • Otherwise, the kobold moves 2 tiles toward the closest Hero.
Spear: Attack +8 - Damage 1

Spitting Drake (Reptile) - 3 Experience
AC 16 - HP 2
TACTICS
  • If the drake is within 2 tiles of a Hero, it attacks each Hero on the closest Hero's tile with a caustic spit.
  • Otherwise, the drake moves 1 tile toward the closest Hero.
Spit: Attack +7 - Damage 2

  1. Are these all made from pre-existing kobolds in the monster manual?

  2. I based them and named them after monsters from the Monster Vault.

  3. Hey Lance, thought I'd post this here where it was most visible. Mind if I reprint your tempting magic subsystem powers for a project on our site? I'm making a Lovecraftian D&D setting called Monsters & Madness and was planning on expanding on the arcane defilement subsystem as you did. Mind if I stand on your shoulders a little?

  4. Dear Lance,

I couldn't find your email, and your side bar said to post here with any questions, so hope you don't mind I post this all here...

It is through your management of a 4e blog, activity on a 4e forum, or contributions in Dungeon or Dragon that I have acquired your name. Don’t be alarmed, I’m not offering stakes in a foreign bank or anything like that, just extending a hand in friendship and an invitation to join a new community effort dedicated to supporting 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons with new modules, side treks, locales, subsystems and just about anything else we can think of.

We’re calling the initiative Fourth Party, both because we are apart from the normal 3rd party companies due to our volunteer nature, and because this is exclusively 4e support. It is our aspiration that a collective pool of talented fans and freelancers come together to bolster the game we love, volunteering their skills wherever they may lie in order to produce material we all want to see.

Inspired by such incredible offerings as EnWorld’s War of the Burning Sky and more recently Zeitgeist, and 4thcore’s Revenge of the Iron Lich and Crucible of the Gods, I’m convinced supporters have only just scratched the surface of this edition’s potential. I, like many of you, have felt the call to design, but the idea of creating quality supplements can be daunting and the process demanding. It is our hope that as a Fourth Party community we can share the burden and create new and exciting content.

I encourage you to visit our forums at  http://fourthparty.freeforums.org/index.php , introduce yourself, offer up new ideas, and see about becoming part of a project.

    Sincerely,

    Fourthman (Pour)
